Christian Louboutin Nail Polish Review

If you can remember back to the 2012 Grammy Awards, Adele walked the red carpet with a manicure that matched her crystal-studded Louboutin shoes. Her manicurist, Mike Pocock, painted the tops of her talon-length nails a twinkling blue and the undersides of them a bold crimson, mimicking the brand’s iconic red soles. Well, on October 13, Christian Louboutin will launch a product you had no idea you needed: a nail-art pen created specifically for painting the underside of you nail, the Loubi Under Red Nail Color Pen.

It looks like all of the brand’s polishes, with a stiletto-shaped handle (that could definitely double as a dangerous weapon). But inside, in place of a polish brush is what looks exactly like a felt-tip liquid liner. The sponge applicator is what makes it easy to scribble the polish on the underside of your nail (minus the mess) or to draw straight, clean lines on top. Unfortunately, mastering the under-mani isn’t nearly as simple.

First off, you need long nails. Not sort-of-long nails—we’re talking talons so long you will won’t be able to type, text, or scratch your nose without causing injury to yourself and others. I only had one nail that I could test this product on, which is when I learned another important tip when using this: You must paint the tops of your fingernails with an opaque polish. Red polish under bare nails, or even a sheer nude, looks like your fingers are bleeding—a fact confirmed by many of my coworkers. Luckily for us, manicurist Madeline Poole created a few exclusive designs for Louboutin (shown above) using the Loubi Under pen that won’t scare away small children.
